When a crane reaches the end of its original design life, it doesn't necessarily need to be retired. IDC conducts formal engineering assessments to determine whether continued operation is safe and compliant — and if so, under what conditions.
A life extension assessment considers the crane's actual duty history, structural condition, maintenance records, and operational environment. If the crane qualifies, we provide a formal written assessment that supports continued service for a defined period.
Independent engineering verification before a critical lift.
For complex or high-risk lifts, you need an independent engineer to verify the lift plan, check the calculations, and confirm the methodology is sound. IDC provides formal lift plan verification — an independent check by engineers with no stake in the job going ahead.
Engineering sign-off for modifications and structural changes.
If a crane has been modified — or needs to be — the modification requires independent engineering verification. IDC assesses proposed or completed modifications against the relevant Australian Standards and the crane's original design basis, and provides formal engineering sign-off.
This includes boom modifications, counterweight changes, structural repairs, and any alteration that affects the crane's rated capacity or structural integrity.
Making sure overseas equipment meets Australian Standards.
A significant part of IDC's work involves verifying that cranes and lifting equipment designed or manufactured to overseas standards comply with Australian requirements. If you're importing equipment, commissioning a crane built to European or US standards, or inheriting a machine with non-Australian documentation, it needs formal engineering validation before it can legally operate here.
IDC assesses the equipment against the applicable Australian Standards — AS 1418, AS 2550, AS 4100 — identifies any gaps, and provides the engineering documentation needed to demonstrate compliance to regulators and insurers.
When you need independent confirmation that a crane is compliant.
Regulators, insurers, and principal contractors sometimes require independent verification that a crane meets its compliance obligations. IDC provides formal engineering assessments and written reports that confirm (or identify gaps in) a crane's compliance status.
Our reports are referenced to AS 1418, AS 2550, and AS 4100, and are written to be read by people who know what they're looking for.
Design and verification work only has value if the engineer doing it has no conflict of interest. IDC doesn't sell cranes, maintain cranes, or run a workshop.
