IDC (IDEAS Cranes Pty Ltd) is an independent crane engineering consultancy headquartered in Rowville, Victoria, serving clients across Australia.
We specialise in crane compliance: CraneSafe annual inspections, major inspections at end of design life, and the engineering assessment and verification work in between. Our clients are crane hire companies, owner-operators in construction, mining, ports and heavy industry, and manufacturers who need local engineering support.
We are not a crane hire company, a dealership, or a workshop. We don't sell equipment and we don't repair it. The only thing IDC sells is engineering — which is precisely what makes our assessments worth something.
IDC's engineers are practising crane engineers — people who spend their working lives on site and under cranes, not behind a desk. Between them they've completed more than 600 major inspections across Australia, on everything from a Franna to a Liebherr LG 1750.
Every report we issue is peer-reviewed by a second engineer before it leaves the office. That isn't a nice-to-have: our reports are read by regulators, insurers, and our clients' own engineering teams, and they need to hold up.
Engineering credentials matter more than company badges — a report is only as good as the engineer whose name is on it.
IDC's major inspection program is overseen by a CICA Endorsed Engineer — independent recognition under the Crane Industry Council of Australia that the engineer meets the industry's technical standards. IDC is a CICA member.
Our team includes CraneSafe-endorsed engineers. CraneSafe is the crane industry's national assessment program, managed under CICA — and the endorsement sits with the engineers personally, not the company.
IDC's engineering is signed by registered professional engineers, holding RPEQ (Queensland), RPEV (Victoria) and NER (national) registration — covering every Australian state that requires it. Our work is referenced to AS 1418, AS 2550 and AS 4100.
IDC has no affiliation with any crane manufacturer, hire company, or repair workshop. We have no financial interest in the scope of work being larger than it needs to be, and nothing to sell you at the end of an inspection.
So when we say a crane is fit for service, that's the engineering talking. When we say it isn't, that's the engineering too — and we'll explain exactly what needs to happen and why.
